After many problems with the renovations, it was finally time to paint Sofie & Koen's (the owners) . This project started about 3 years ago and is part of the ‘fake views’ project initiated and supported by the Berchem district.
During the first visit, I asked Sofie and Koen if they had any preferences. Since I often paint animals, they asked to work around an animal with a cuteness factor or an animal that radiates something. They were planting bamboo at the time. That bamboo, and the white building with black windows, inspired me to work with a panda.
Smok created a realistic 3D mural of a panda, painted on the corner of a modern white house in Belgium, depicts a giant panda emerging from the house, as it were, creating a trompe-l'oeil optical illusion in an urban street setting.
